get pushed #17 - stranger(s)

my push for this week came from @tinmaddog who challenged me to take a photo of a stranger. here's what he said: "I'd like you to take a "strangers" pic of the seedy part of life. Please, nothing dangerous. If you can't get them both, then one or the other will do. Have fun."

why is it that this week no street person bugged me for money? this week that i needed to take a picture of strangers. all five days, they even hid from me because all week i've not seen any grate sleepers.

well, not all week. i did see a man lying so comfortably on the pavement at lunchtime. but when i took my camera out of my bag, he yelled "you, bitch, take my picture and i will eat your brain!" so hey, when someone threatens to eat my brain, i take that seriously.

so i thought i was destined yet again for another failure with my photographic pursuits. then i passed by this man who was changing the plants on the planters surrounding our neighbouring building. i walked past him, then i thought, why not, if he says no, then so be it. so i went back and asked, and he readily said yes. but he didn't stop with what he was doing. i asked him once to look at the camera and he did. after a few seconds, he looked at me again with that "are you still there?" look. so i showed him the photos and he just nodded and went about his work.

his name is narool (or something that sounded like that, i asked him three times and he even spelled it for me but there was a traffic jam and cars were just tooting like there was no tomorrow). he and his buddy work for a landscaping contractor for the building.

heck, i should have offered to give him money for coffee and i forgot! damnit!

Great street shot (collage) Vikki, love his expression, he looks friendly on the left one. It was nice of him to allow you to take some shots. I'm too afraid of street shots but it's definitely on my bucket list.

Well hey at least you found someone who did not want to eat your brain. It is a nice shot and I do like his expression

great shot! I'm still a little shy about asking strangers to take their photos. I'd beware of of brain eaters too! :)
You have such an amazing collection of images, I went through the last few months, you have a great variety.
My challenge for you is to do a ghost shot, take an ordinary scene and make it spooky with the addition of a ghostly figure only.
Good luck! :)

good capture, he looks a little concerned

@sarasdadandmom - terry, anyone near me should always be concerned, big time! :-D thank you, my friend.

hmmm... seedy... plants... perfect!!! very nicely done... :)

Fantastic. Love the processing too. LOL you can just see what he's thinking...Who is this woman? Is there a booger on my mustache? I know I left my keys here somewhere.
November 17th, 2012
@northy - whoa! you got it, eh. i was looking at the foliage to see if there were any seed-type thingies on them and i'd have asked him to raise it so i still get the 'seedy' in the push/challenge. thanks, kiddo.
November 17th, 2012
@tinmaddog - hahaha! you are too funny, TMD. he's just doing his job. he's probably wondering what was taking me so long to take his pic. he just kept on moving i wanted to whack him so he'd stay still. and thank goodness there was no booger in his mo'. thank you.
November 17th, 2012
@tanja_1211 - tanja, it is quite stressful. you never know how they'd react. by the same token i got a few who voluntarily came to me and asked if i can take their photos.
November 17th, 2012
@bkbinthecity - hahaha! you're so right, brian. thank you.
November 17th, 2012
@mgirard - thank you, michael. i shall try my hardest to meet this challenge. i shall be over yours shortly to give you your push.
November 17th, 2012
Good job! You are braver than I.
November 17th, 2012
@olivetreeann - thank you, ann. i suppose that's why they call the challenge a push - it pushes you out of your comfort zone. i've had all my push challenges done so far, a few were not to my liking because i know i could do better. this is one of those where i know i could've done a lot better. this time i can't blame it on the camera, rather on my limited skills as a photographer.

Well captured and kudos to you for asking the chap if you could take his picture!
November 17th, 2012
your photos always tell a story -- this one is no exception!
November 17th, 2012
@salza - thank you, sally. nerve-wracking, mind you!
November 17th, 2012
@cscecil - thank you, CS. hope you like the story.
November 17th, 2012
Nice job with these photos! At least he did not threaten you!
November 18th, 2012
@pamfromcalgary - he was okay with it but he didn't stop what he was doing and i don't blame him as maybe his boss was somewhere. but in my haste, probably from the tension, i forgot to give him coffee money. thank you, pam.

wow you almost failed the first part of your instructions - "nothing dangerous" - being threatened to get your brains eaten sounds a bit on the edge of danger to me.

You did really well with this challenging challenge. Oh I hope I don't get that challenge. Awesome capture
