A Tree Grows in a Car by taffy

A Tree Grows in a Car

I had posted this and was trying to edit it and ended up totally messing it up. So I edited it offline and am reposting and hopefully will paste in messages already there. UGH!! Tried to do something too quickly!

Anyway, this was on a wonderful hike yesterday where we tried to find frogs, snakes, and other swamp/marsh creatures. That was a failure, but we ended up leaving the bogs and marsh and on a trail to an old, falling down farmhouse. This was on the trail -- a car that had to be from the 1940s given its style and the height of the tree, which was growing out of the passenger seat. Processed in sepia to try to capture that sense of age.

There it is. Here was my comment. Hardly worth the wait! Ha, love it when this happens. Sometimes weird things make habitats. actually I like the higher contrast of this edit.

Totally fascinating homage to the power of nature! (Not a sight you'd see in Brooklyn.)

Great find,nicely processed in sepia!!

@danielwsc Darn!! I just upped the contrast and it looks MUCH better. I'm going to try to figure a way to repost and add in the messages folks have left by hand as it looks much much much better. I can't believe I didn't think of that as I had already not been happy with how light it was.

@taffy Duh...will you still send me the directions for picmonkey which would have made MUCH more sense!
July 13th, 2013
@fueast Thanks Alison! I can't believe I lost everyone's comments but because I didn't trust what I was doing, I'd actually pasted them into a word file just in case! I'm glad you think this is better. All thanks to @danielwsc.

I tried to catch you before you re-posted. There is a way to re-post without losing the comments, described in this discussion thread: http://365project.org/discuss/general/17189/can-i-re-upload-an-improved-photo. Scroll down to bulldog's comment.

@danielwsc Thanks Daniel. Just saved it in my Evernote Photo notebook for safe keeping. At least I'd saved comments so didn't lose everything, but that would have been SOOO much easier! And it's clear that others agreed with you -- thanks for the advice.

this is darker and more contrasty than the other isn't it? I think I prefer it, although I liked the other ones paleness too...
July 13th, 2013
@jaynspain Yes -- I upped the contrast a bit. Last night it was late and I was tired, but I wasn't quite satisfied with it. When Daniel mentioned the contrast in his comment, it hit me that this was what I'd missed last night so I edited a bit more. It's interesting that you liked the pale version too...that was the part that I'd been disappointed in as in person, it was vibrant and I felt the sepia washed that out. Thanks for revisiting! And sorry for the hassle of it!

Great Shot! ;)

Really cool find and shot!
July 13th, 2013
This is SO cool! Like really really cool! It kinda reminds me of the book, The Bridge to Terabithia (or however you spell it) I am not entirely sure why, it just does! :)
July 13th, 2013
Love the sepia and great find!
July 13th, 2013
Great find, I would like to see the original version in colour.
July 13th, 2013
I didn't see the 1st version---but this is spectacular---and I wanna see some snakes too-lol !:)
July 13th, 2013
Great find. Love the processing.
July 13th, 2013
it looks like it has been there for so long! Cool processing.

Fab find!

@danielwsc so glad you posted this I was wondering the same thing
July 14th, 2013
Poor forlorn and forgotten car! But what an interesting find! Nicely processed. I know the feeling- I think everything I've posted this week I've wished I could redo in some way shape or form.
July 14th, 2013
What a unique capture!

Cool shot

@genesis_one Hi Corrie -- I tried to upload the color to my flickr account which I don't use all that much. I don't think it makes a very interesting shot in color because there was just too much green, if there is such a thing. I thought it was hard to distinguish the tree from the car. Here's a link, I think: http://www.flickr.com/photos/taffyraphael/sets/72157634624662767/
If it works (or doesn't), will you let me know?
July 14th, 2013
Great find! Nature reclaims its space :)
July 14th, 2013
@taffy In response to Corrie's comment and looking at the color version, it might be worth using HDR on this image. Just a thought.
July 14th, 2013
The processing on this one is lovely :)
July 14th, 2013
What a cool find. Nice processing

@danielwsc @genesis_one
Hi Daniel and Corrie -- per Daniel's suggestion, I processed in HDR, then tweaked a bit in Efex Pro. I think it tones down the brightness and brings up the rusty car a bit. What do you think? Here's the link: http://www.flickr.com/photos/taffyraphael/sets/72157634636472921/
July 14th, 2013
Very cool shot - and processing perfection!
July 15th, 2013
Cool shot. i like them both but prefer your HDR version. Definitely brings up the rusty car. Too bad to lose that in the sepia version.
July 15th, 2013
@taffy Excellent HDR processing Taffy! Toning down the bright greenery was the key. If only you had another album to post it in...
July 15th, 2013
@danielwsc Mmmm....I may have to break into album 3 -- I bought a new camera body and took my first pictures today, but have no place to put even one of them!
July 15th, 2013
@taffy I agree with Daniel, this the best! But don't stress, there is always next time and if you can, go back and do it again, this time you will know what you are looking for.
July 15th, 2013
@genesis_one Thanks Corrie! I feel like I learned a lot from yours and Daniel's suggestions and appreciate the time you both took on this. I actually used HDR as a first step in a bunch of the garden tour photos I took in my official role and now have to process and turn in to them.
July 15th, 2013
Stunning! Love this shot. Fav!
July 15th, 2013
Very cool find! love the processing!

Interesting find! The sepia really captures the antique vibe well!
