In my neighbor's garden today, after helping her create photo collages to give as gifts to the hosts for the Beaver Island Garden Tour last month, we saw this critter sipping away on the flower, walking in circles around the yellow part. I had my macro on my camera (which of course I carry everywhere) so it was the right lens, the right light, and a calm critter. So, I was able to photograph it as it walked around, from all angles. I liked this one as we seemed to be looking right into each other's eyes (or eyes/lens!).
Not sure if it's a butterfly or a moth or a butterfly moth or something else.
Fantastic shot Taffy! Although I can't see the tell-tale white spot on the wing, I think it's a Skipper- but I not an expert so someone might know better than I! I do know it's a great shot though!
Great macro! It is a butterfly; it has long jointed antennae. Moths have short feathery antennae.
Did you get multiple shots from about the same angle at slightly different focus points? You might be able to do some focus stacking. CombineZP is free and does a great job.
Excellent clarity and focus here, such nice of this critter to let you shoot it and it is totally eyeing you out! I definitely should carry my macro lens with me too, so many oppurtunities I´ve missed cos of I did not take it with me.
@danielwsc I didn't take multiple shots of this one. I have perfect layers which I think allows stacking and will look into CombineZP as stacking is something I've been wanting to learn to do. I didn't realize it would provide more DoF in macros.
@pflaume Thanks Lisa! I'm going to have to stop myself from bug shots as I feel I'm getting repetitive (though I did another one today - can't help myself it seems).
