It was a beautiful day today and I spent the afternoon taking photos for the Central Michigan University softball team at the annual Bud McDonough tournament. We had a quiet evening at home, eating dinner on the deck, camera at the ready, while Jim pointed out hummingbirds and I tried, and failed, to capture a single one. As we were finishing up, we started talking about the mushrooms that were popping up in the yard, so as the sun was setting, I captured a few of them. I loved the lighting on this one. I'd considered -- given the weekly theme -- of bringing my plastic aliens back out for the shot, but decided this mushroom was special enough that it deserved its moment in the sun (so to speak). So, no aliens, no processing -- just a mushroom more or less as is.

you are right - it's perfect just as it is without processing or aliens. I especially love that little bit of light right under the cap and on the stem. You make me wish I was there!
Love the light and tones, it looks somehow very mystical, I could very well picture a fairy sitting in there and the little aliens would have been fun too but you´re right, very beautiful on it´s own
Thank you all for your kind comments on our little fungi! I'm glad you thought the shot was successful. A special thanks for the faves, Gena, Joey, and Kerri!
Thanks for liking this mushroom shot -- and for commenting on the lighting in the shot. That was the part that I liked the most about it as well.
