As we were driving to the airport, this is the sight that greeted us in Maui Marina area, looking across the 'the mountain' or 'upcountry.' note the totally clear top? Note that there is no mist to create hazardous driving conditions? This is what we had hoped to see when we went up the mountain on Monday. So instead, Jim stopped at a lookout point so I could take a picture of what might have been. Clearly the mountain was inviting us to come back!
We fly home tomorrow and I'm sad to be going to the frigid midwest, but it's time to get back. I still have Hawaii photos to post so will probably add them through the weekend - one last rainbow, a star shot from tonight, maybe another dolphin...Thank you for your wonderful comments as I've shared my adventure here! I hope your holiday today was great. Now it's on to New Years!

You have seen some amazing things in gorgeous Hawaii! It must be hard to come back to Snow Country! But coming home is part of the vacation experience.
Stunning!! You have made me put Hawaii on the top of my list of places to visit - in my dreams of course!! Thank you Taffy for sharing your wonderful trip with us!! Fav!!
Great view! There's nothing like riding your road bike up Haleakala and experiencing the climate changes along the way up to 10K feet, taking in the moon-like lava at the top, and then the breathtaking descent back to 5 feet at the beach. Your picture brings back some great memories, and I'm sure you'll have lots as well! Just an FYI, it is the longest sustained "paved" road bike climb in the northern hemisphere at 36 miles.
@salza That's exactly how I felt on this trip! Because one of my closest friends of 35 years (and colleague and business partner) lives on Oahu, I've been here several times. It was on this trip, though, that my photos felt finally like they were 'worthy' of the place. I'd never been on Maui, though, and this island was just incredible for photograph as it is much less developed than the others like Oahu and even Kaui. Thanks for your views and visits! I'm now working on getting caught up on my views and comments!
@pamknowler Thanks for your comment and visit, Pam! Yes, you'd love Hawaii -- I know you'd enjoy the photography a ton! What is interesting to me is even on Oahu, which is largely urban, there is so much beauty everywhere!
@cjphoto I like the clouds from here, not so much when we were in the middle of them trying to get down the mountain! Thanks for your visit and comment, Chris.
Hope you'll have a save trip home!
