Welcome Home

Wow -- thank you all so much for your wonderful response to my shot taken in NYC of downtown Manhattan from across the East River. It actually made it to PP today (which I've found to happen very rarely these days). I'm so excited -- a big thanks to @michaelelliott who guided me in setting up the shot!
I'm still catching up - now only one day behind. I took this photo late yesterday afternoon. When I left for the office, the stairs were clear. Several hours later, this is what greeted me when I got home. UGH!! And I was the first one back so had to do the shoveling. Our downstair's condo-sharers are quite wonderful about shoveling for us, so I can't complain...but I just did!
Processed in Topaz just because. . . I'm getting bored with just photographing snow! At least today it has started melting (oh good, flooding ahead...). One thing I sort of liked in this image is the way the tree across the street is reflected in the glass panels of our door.
Get-pushed challenge for portraits in my other two albums:

I like the reflection of the tree, too. Very cool.

Awesome shot

Great composition and love the reflection on the door window! I love snow, especially because I don't live in it on a daily basis, but I have to salute you and everyone who has put up with way too much of it this winter! Shoveling it is probably good exercise, though.

Great perspective and has a very welcoming feeling.

Great feeling of symmetry. Love that reflection and your processing. Hang in there. The wind's from the south today so maybe you'll get some of our warmer temperatures soon!
February 19th, 2014
Love your point of view and the reflection. We have the best of both worlds this winter. Ski resorts have record snow, and we don't!
February 19th, 2014
I LOVE this image...and I LOVE your home! Beautiful entry! Just fabulous. Don't know if your hubby every made it to NYC...(I'm so far behind) but I am sure you made the best of it?? hahah! This is a fav!
February 19th, 2014
It actually looks very welcoming- warm and safe from the outside world!
February 19th, 2014
@eyesmile Thanks so much Gena! No, the guys never made it in so Junko and I did make the best of it. Numerous photo walks, some serious shopping, and a play and a musical. We did head out on Saturday (Junko as planned, me leaving a day early since Jim hadn't made it in), but all in all, despite the weather, it was a good week, with just enough work not to feel guilty for the fun we had!

Love the details you captured, Taffy. Great framing and composition!
February 19th, 2014
Great processing.

cool

The tree reflection really pops. I don't envy you all that shoveling. For me snow is something I only need to see in pictures. I'm not sure I would enjoy living with it. I'm definitely a warm weather person!

Another impressive capture,Taffy :)

February 19th, 2014
Beautiful shot, it seams somehow unreal but in a good way, like it´s too perfect to be real, more like from some storybook. Your processings are always impressive and beautiful. That´s a lot of snow and in so short time
February 19th, 2014
Nice lines in this one. It has a very soft HDR feel to it.
February 19th, 2014
Fabulous capture. Congratulations on the PP.
February 19th, 2014
fun processing - snow before the floods would have been fun this year
February 19th, 2014
Great POV and I really like the processing.
February 19th, 2014
Beautiful light and shade creating new colours in the snow.
February 19th, 2014
Love the processing!
February 19th, 2014
Nice capture!
February 19th, 2014
The tree reflection makes this for me. Lovely shot. You've had so much snow and we, rather disappointingly, have had none this year.
February 19th, 2014
Love this composition all together. The tree reflection in the door is wonderful.
February 19th, 2014

@lisay I love your comments -- never feel there are too many!!
February 19th, 2014
Lovely shot, sharp front to back, great lines.
February 19th, 2014
Looks like a very welcoming front door- in spite of the snow! Nice capture.
February 19th, 2014
The processing makes it look something out of a fairy tale. The door opens and...
February 19th, 2014
Great work with processing. The entire frame makes me think like I was looking a video game movie intro or maybe a tale :). Beautiful one.
February 19th, 2014
Love the symmetry and reflection. Happy shovelling.
February 20th, 2014
Super shot!
February 20th, 2014
Love all the shapes and textures. Beautiful shot.
February 20th, 2014
Really interesting with the glow here!
February 20th, 2014
Love the pov and the tree reflection!
February 20th, 2014
@olivetreeann It's nice to read 'welcoming' as the look. I've often wondered at the distancing that having an iron fence around the house conveys. It's a very typical style here in Chicago, with no locks, just for design.
February 20th, 2014
It is harder to get on pp now. He made the trending page sort of be the gateway to getting on pp. I think. I love the. LOL,HDR going on here and the shapes
February 20th, 2014
Really like your processing, it's bold and makes a statement and goes perfectly with the image. The reflection of the tree brings in the natural element to the otherwise structured manmade shapes.
February 20th, 2014
this one is really special for many reasons - fav
February 20th, 2014
@axika @teodw @espyetta Thanks so much. I couldn't believe it when I walked home and saw all that snow between me and inside warmth. But, my first reaction was to get my camera out and photograph it!
February 20th, 2014
Fabulous composition and perspective, stunning shot !
February 20th, 2014
Superb taffy
February 20th, 2014
Oh I like this. Super pov. Maybe a little HDRish for my tastes processing wise.
February 20th, 2014
@taffy I always think of a wrought iron fence being quiet elegant!
February 21st, 2014
Very cool HDR effect. I like your composition a lot.
February 22nd, 2014
That you paused to take a picture before heading on inside tells of your true photographic spirit!
February 22nd, 2014
great pov!
February 23rd, 2014
I love the composition of this.
February 24th, 2014
I love this! The look of the snow and the stairs leading to the door are all so awesome!!
