Really, this is considered the "other" dome at the Chicago Cultural Center (see 4/4 for info on the building). How could any dome compete with that Tiffany one, the largest in the world? But this one is pretty amazing in its own right -- 40 feet across above what is called the "Grand Army of the Republic Rotunda" in the north end of the Cultural Center. The Tiffany is above a larger hall at the south end of the building. For those interested in more about these two stained glass domes, the URL I found most concise and comprehensive is: ttp://www.mindfulwalker.com/beyond-gotham/stained-glass-glory-in-chicago
I love this too Taffy. The light and colours of the dome are wonderful along with the repeating patterns. You have some stunning architecture in Chicago!
You're making me want to come visit Chicago again....so much I have not seen or forgotten, and so much more that has been built since I was there last! I will definitely put this building on my list! Love your architectural shots! What is your wide angle lens?
How amazing that one building should have two such wonderful domes - following the link it is hard to believe this magnificent building was under threat in the 1970's. Wonderful capture
@panthora I think I mentioned this in the other shot, but just in case, it's a Nikkor 14-24 f/2.8. It's a wonderful lens but I find it's the hardest of all my lenses to figure out when and how to use it effectively. It's great for architecture and broad landscapes -- you'd love them for your sunsets -- but it takes getting used to and I'm not there yet.
@lyndemc Aw, Lynde, you made my day! Thanks so much. I'm finding processing photos really feeds into my somewhat (or extreme as some think) Type A tendencies!
@andrewkru Thanks Andrew. Some of the color I think is filtered from the dome but I think the dome is actually lit via electric lights rather than natural light outside. When I was there, I couldn't tell what some of the lighting source was, but I loved the golden tones.
thank you for your comments on my pictures lately :-)
