Walking back from the fish market (with wild caught Mahi-Mahi for Jim to cook for us), I noticed the moon BELOW our balcony!
Cropped and adjusted in minor ways with LR, which is still feeling complicated to me, then exported to Nik Silver Efex for b&w conversion.
Thank you for all your comments on the landscapes from Death Valley. I've appreciate them and it's reinforcing to keep working on LR for processing.
@maggiemae You're right on target on that. We are one of only two high rise buildings this tall on the western side of the highway. So, we get quite a span for our view. The moon was actually over the highway and just on the other side, the skyscrapers start to be fairly dense.
See where your processing has taken you Taffy, so far up in the world that you're above the moon! Fun aside, I'm really enjoying what you're doing in processing. Perhaps this half term I'll get my PS sorted. Then I 'll have to up my skill set!
Wonderful capture Taffy!! I tried to get a moon rising shot a couple of weeks ago with the full moon sitting on a lamppost but I only had my Iphone - doh!! After that it was cloudy and I had missed my chance.
@transatlantic99 Thanks Heidi. I actually took this while there was still light -- an early blue hour shot so I had plenty of detail in the building. Then, I used Nik Silver Efex to convert it to b&w and within Nik, I started with the low key preset, but then used the sliders to brighten, smooth the structures, and adjust contrast til I had it the way I wanted it to look.
@onewing I don't think solarizing would give you this kind of effect. When I've used it in Color Efex, I find it makes more of an otherworldly kind of an effect -- shinier somehow, than this looks. But I don't use PS so it may be that you could use solarizing there, and then sliders to tone down the otherworldly tones if they are present.
@riverlandphotos Is one of your favorite movies "It's a Wonderful Life" where the Jimmy Stewart character talks about lassoing the moon? Your comment made me think of that.
@nicoleterheide Thanks Nicole! Our balcony is actually the one at the top -- totally scary looking down from there! But the composition looked better with the moon where it is which was good as I couldn't get the moon to go up any higher! and I couldn't get lower!
