No need to comment...filling in a gap from earlier this month.
From the Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park in Florida - this hippo started his life there as a baby and could not survive in the wild. He's now in his 50s and will soon have his annual birthday party in January. Hard to believe these are among the most dangerous animals on earth!
Fabulous detail here Taffy - top shot!! Love your processing too!! Happy new Year to you and Jim. I hope it brings lots of happiness and good health!! Fav!
Just love him !! such a cute brute ! Super textures around his nose and mouth , the light glistening on his skin ! and a superb tonal hues in the background ! A big fav ,and a Happy and Healthy to you and Jim ! :)
That's an amazing close up, faved! At first, I thought you must have used a super duper zoom lens, but now I see that your focal length is 250mm. Did you crop quite a bit?
@elkereturns I didn't crop it too much as we weren't standing that far away from him. He had an enclosure with a lake in front of it, and we were just at the edge of the lake on the far side. In the wild I'm guessing I'd need to use a 600mm and stay FAR FAR away!!
Thanks for the kind comment!
@gozoinklings In this image, he does look young -- when his mouth was open and we could see his teeth, it was easy to tell just how old he must be. Happy New Year to you!
