This was a first for me and a little window into off-season island life. Started with Bite of Beaver - a hugely successful event with a packed crowd at the church social hall, with tables of food lining the walls and what looked like a few hundred people in line and at tables. Each food table fundraising for various causes on the island. Followed by the first (annual?) women's shuffleboard tournament at 'the rock.' Women sort of took over the bar area with the tournament. Since my team was eliminated in round one, I had plenty of time to photograph!
@casablanca Yes and no. It's ridiculously simply looking...roll the little disks to the other end for 3, 2, or 1 point depending on where it stops. BUT, it is really hard to judge how to roll it as it is really sensitive. So I kept rolling it off the board, or barely getting to the 1-point place. And accidentally hitting the few good shots I had so that the puck in a good place was bumped off the table. So to me, very hard. But losing worked well for photographing.
@taffy Sounds a bit like bowling or curling. Precision pretty hard to come by! I’d be the same - knocked out early and playing with my camera. I love this pov, all the more now I can understand how the game works.
Great image - love your pov!! The game sounds fun and I am laughing at how good you are at it!! Sounds just like me!! Good excuse to get the camera out!!
A wonderfully evocative photo of this bar game....it certainly has a feel of a traditional bar top used for those sliding counters. The Rock at the back & the bokeh is a perfect addition?
What a great atmospheric shot which accompanies the story of your event so well. Sounds like a different night out and certainly something different to photograph. Love the pov here and the background is perfect.
Sounds fun- I think if I had a place like this I'd enjoy off-season! Great pov. When growing up the shuffleboard we played was on a larger scale with a cement playing field and "rakes" especially made for launching the discs down to the other end. That wasn't easy either!
