Thank you all for the very encouraging words about my new photographic responsibilities! They are very much appreciated and so supportive. Really, thank you so much! This is one of three churches on Beaver Island, and site for last night's presentation. This is after the presentation, with stragglers remaining to catch a word with the presenter or to chat with friends and neighbors. First main concert is tomorrow night, and first rehearsal to photograph tomorrow afternoon. And meeting with the festival manager in the morning to talk through the kinds of images they hope I'll be able to capture for use in next year's brochure, website, and programs. Intimidating!!
Oh a lovely photo of this church. How wonderful to be able to officially take a photo such as this without doing it on the quiet. I like this church, it’s not too grand, looks friendly & inviting & the type of church I am used to. I’m guessing a Catholic Church because of the presence of the various statues, the congregation all look happy chatting away.
Sounds like you’re going to be very busy over the next few days, it’s exciting & they couldn’t have picked a better talented photographer. Good luck!
@happypat Yes, this is the Catholic one. There's an Episcopal and a Christian Church. This is the site for 2 of the concerts, I think. Acoustics are nice and it's a bit larger than the other two.
Good luck! I have found that raising up my ISO will help grab focus and any unwanted grain or noise can be easily removed in post. Shooting portraits and events can be stressful, so hang in there.
A great place to make baroque music. Do you have the option of setting the camera to silent mode? If you do not wrap it up a little to suppress the shutter sound.
@haskar my mirrorless has a silent function. Not my 610 unfortunately but I can use that outside performances. The conductor had asked me about this too!
You can do it, I have enormous confidence in you. Just be yourself. You have a great natural eye for a moment, for light quality, for atmosphere. Don’t stress - it will be just fine in your experienced hands.
