Lessons Learned:
1. Shaped bokeh requires lots of lights
2. Best not to do this in single digit temperatures
3. If in single digit temperatures, do this quickly
4. If wearing gloves, assume the shape will fall off bokeh-shape holder and you will have to continue to freeze beyond time expected as you look for your bokeh kit on the ground in the dark
5. Hope for the best first time out as you will not want to go out again!
This is a neighbor's outdoor decoration -- they have lights on their main tree, some bushes, and around their door. The door one may appear later this week.

Thanks for sharing the lesson :) I am sure I'd stick to finding something inside at those temperatures, so well done for braving it! It's a cool shot. I must give it a try at some point, I have never done a bokeh shot
@pflaume I was really excited about it once I thawed out my fingers and could get the card out of the camera and into the computer! Thanks for sharing in my joy!
@maggiemae @froggie0628 I've got how to details on shaped bokeh here, if you're interested: http://www.boostyourphotography.com/2013/12/shaped-bokeh.htm
I bought a bokeh kit a long time ago but hadn't used it yet. It was about $25.00 US and you could easily make it yourself, but I must admit it was VERY convenient once I got it out yesterday. Here's one like mine but I'm not sure if it's the same company -- it looks like the same setup as mine: http://www.amazon.com/DIY-Photography-Masters-Special-Portraits/dp/B004PV8N1I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1386648036&sr=8-1&keywords=bokeh+kit
