This is Soldier Field, home of the Chicago Bears. Remodeled in 2003, it turned into what many Chicagoans think of as an eye-sore. The original facade was maintained (the columns) and dropped between them is this very modern atrocity (you can tell which side I'm on). It's so disappointing since Chicago has been known for its architecture since the Chicago Fire. Apparently, if you can afford tickets, the interior is comfortable and has a great view. This view is looking across the harbor (all those posts are empty boat slips) from a parking area along the pier leading out to Northerly Island in Lake Michigan.
@angiec@shepherdmanswife Thanks to you both! I'm glad the photo looks okay, as really, it is quite an ugly sight to see -- and right along the lakefront too. It's so sad that they sort of ignored the architecture -- I can't believe someone couldn't have come up with a better plan!
Amazing sky... At least they can't mess that up :)
Could be worse. We have a stadium they built a few years ago which is 90 degrees in the wrong direction so that one team is always kicking into the sun.
It reminds me of a cruise ship - and I am not a fan of those. Sorry to hear that they botched that renovation project. Great shot, however, love the vertical and horizontal lines.
