Wrought Iron Patterns by taffy

Wrought Iron Patterns

My second response to get-pushed-90 and Sally's @salza challenge to focus on patterns and fill the frame. This is a segment the elevator lobby in the restored Reliance Building (built in 1895, part of the post-Chicago Fire era of buildings like the Rookery and others). It's now the Burnham hotel (Burnham -- as in the Chicago architect who planned the 1893 expo and the city layout). I shot this with my wide angle, knowing I was going to crop it to fill the frame with the filigree patterns that span 2 floors. More info (and a photo of what the elevator lobby actually looks like): http://www.burnhamhotel.com/chicago-hotel-news/hotel-history.html

Stunning picture of repeating patterns.

@salza -- here's a second one...one more idea to try -- probably will post tomorrow or Thursday.

Great perspective

This is another fabulous shot Taffy, love the perspective here very impressive. I scrolled up and like it without the ceiling showing as if looks like it goes on forever then. Maybe you could try it and post on your Flickr account and I want to come to Chicago one day and get you to take me to all these fabulous places as I love the amazing architecture you are photographing. Great work

Such an amazing pov and wonderful details!

@elaine55 Elaine, I really appreciate your feedback. I'd debated where to end it so knew immediately what you meant. Here's the alternative and I see what you mean about the feeling of it going on forever. And it would be great fun to have you visit Chicago and hit the architectural wonders. Because of the Chicago Fire, the city has evolved into quite an architectural paradise! Nothing like having to start a city all over again! I may be in Sydney in October -- depends on where my flights enter/leave. We may get to do a photowalk at some point! Unusual perspective, but I understand that it had been done specifically for the challenge.

wow spectacular detail.

@taffy Love it Taffy! I have made a comment on Flickr. Where are you going in October? it would be lovely to meet up if we could, assuming that I am still in Sydney as we are moving back to the UK at some point as our older daughter wants to live with us again and she needs to be near London and whether our younger daughter's health improves in the next few months as the trip to the UK at Christmas set her back quite a bit.

I meant to say in my first comment that I clicked on to your link and there is a wonderful staircase there to photograph but I don't expect you need any ideas.

looks very impressive architecture

@elaine55 Sound like some complicated family planning and hopefully your youngest will be better for travel. Right now I'm scheduled to be in Brisbane for a week of work, then fly to Adelaide for another 4-5 days of work and meeting up with a friend who is at the university there. My flights are likely to be out of either Melbourne or Sydney -- I'll probably go with whatever is least expensive, but I'm hoping it's Sydney as I'd love a layover there that would allow me to spend at least a day doing a massive photowalk. I was there about 15 years go, maybe longer...and just loved it.

You have such a great eye for these shots (so does Elaine @elaine55 )... I wandered the streets of our little town looking for some inspiration and I'm sure there are things there, I just don't see them like you girls do. How amazing that you will be over here for work, I will have to keep my eye out for your photos when you're here. As I was saying, great shot again!

@pamknowler Thanks Pam! I'm following you on flickr too now. I need to figure out how flickr works. Right now the most I can do is upload, and occasionally remember how to move something into a set. Have your found any good guides to getting started?
