Hand In Hand, The Movie, The Poster

Found this picture hiding at the very beginning of all my pictures with the star of the night. Figured I'd put it up for anybody who is interested in learning more about Taiwanese history, or looking to be inspired.

I actually never took the time to give my thoughts on the film. It was pretty good, and more than anything was love story between the two main characters. It's pretty amazing that in a movie set in the backdrop of social unrest and videos of Taiwanese setting themselves on fire and protesters that were assaulted, that the main imagine from the film that stands out for me was the wife kissing her husband over and over while he was in the hospital bed and her elation when he would open his eyes. Quite moving to see such deep love over so many years.

The movie is definitely not for the squeamish though. as there are some difficult imagines and some very depictive first hand accounts. I must also admit that the story starts off with how they first met, her being 15 and him being 31. the first few minutes are very descriptive of their love and it was difficult for me to sit through, especially when they showed old photos of them together. Granted they stuck by each other and took care of each other for the rest of their lives, but the start of the relationship is a bit...unique.

Also in an interesting choice, the stories from her youth are shown through animation. it looks like it was done by NMA, which is best known for their quickly made political satires for western media companies. It was nice to see them take on a more serious matter, and do it well.

All in all, it was a good movie, but perhaps held up more by the subject than the film. Still a must watch for those looking for an amazing story that was kept hidden for years.
