Envy

Today's post is dedicated to a friend of mine who first introduced me to this website back in early 2011. At that time he was doing a 365 project. Unfortunately for him, things got in the way and he had to quit half way through. I know that he must feel bad for quitting, giving up his commitment, and worst of all, letting the kids down.

Should we tease him because today is the day that I pass the amount of posts he had last year. No my friends, we should build him up! So today's post is a celebration of what he does have...a great bathtub!

In Taiwan, hot springs are all the rage. I've never been a big fan of hot springs. Sitting in water that isn't well filtered, seeing the dead skin of others floating around. Not to mention the first of the two times I've been sick while in Taiwan, suspiciously occurred right after going to a hot spring.

But the big thing I don't get it why go out to a hot spring, when I can have a nice warm bath at home. Baths are made even more lovely in Taiwan by the fact that there is no such thing as central heating here, nor insulation. So for about two months of the year it can get quite cool indoors, requiring more clothes while inside than needed for going outside.

I always look forward to those two months of the year, and it's when I do 80% of my reading for the year. Late at night, when everybody in the city is asleep, I'll sit in a nice hot bath and read a book while listening to a little a music. Pure winter heaven.

Because of this, having a bath tub is pretty much my number one requirement for myself, when choosing a new apartment. I have a few requirements for a place to be suitable for my dog, but for me, having a bath tub is most important.

Last year my friend moved into a new place, and this is his bathtub. It seems pretty amazing. While I've never used it, it is the bathtub i see in my dreams, and in my dreams it's wonderful.

Although my voodoo has been working well. A few months ago his bathroom had some serious water rot problem and he had to stay at a hostel for a few days while his bathroom was getting repaired. Let this be a warning to all of you who have superior bathtubs than I do!

All joking aside, I'm happy that I learned about this website from my friend. Writing this blog has given me some sanity after a day of studying Chinese all day. Also researching info about the things I've photographed has helped me to learn even more about Taiwan, as well as push me to go to see places I didn't even know about before. So thanks, and sorry about the bathroom, I guess I don't know the strength of my own superpowers.
