Love In Advertising

There is a ton of noise pollution in Taipei. Trucks, cars, vans, motorcycles drive the streets with recorded messages coming out of megaphones. They can be advertising anything from a truck full of vegetables, to telling you who to vote for. Some shops will also have the loud megaphones playing a message on loop in front of their store.

Last night I heard something special though. It was a message talking about a lost dog and a reward for that dog. The truck the recording was coming from also had this billboard of sorts on the sides of it, with pictures and info about the dog.

While i've always despised advertising of any sort, seeing this made me come around about it a bit. It seems like maybe 0.01% of the time advertising can be used to do something good. Also it was quite clever of the dog's owner to think of hiring a service to do this.

Well I hope the dog is found, as it's rather old (15 years old). If you are curious about the reward, it's a little over 650 bucks. It's a shame that if I did find the dog, i couldn't bring myself to accept a reward. Sigh....doing the right thing doesn't pay very well.
