The Golden Season

Most of Taiwan's produce is grown in Taiwan. They do import things from other countries, but even those fruits and vegetables are from nearby countries (with some exceptions of course). As such I've learned about the seasons for various fruits and vegetables.

Strawberries are around February, mangoes are around July. Even vegetables have seasons, as broccoli is around April. It's gone so far that I even know what time of year we get imports from other countries. For example apples come from either Taiwan, Japan, New Zealand, Chile, or America, depending on what time of year it is.

Having fruit seasons is both good and bad. the good news is that it does allow you to have some truly fresh and delicious fruits. There is no feeling like having that perfect piece of fruit that just matured in the middle of it's season. True heaven. The drawback can be having to go eleven months without a certain food.

Patience is also a problem as when a season is just beginning you can get over excited and pay more for something that doesn't taste just right. Or you can over do it and have so much of one food for a month. I am guilty of this one, as during strawberry season I used to always make a strawberry banana smoothie every day. So much so that this past February I didn't do it at all, cause i really needed a year off.

Pictured above is my favorite fruit, the golden mango. They are so sweet and so soft, and in the summer it's my dessert at the end of the day. It's so sweet that it essentially tastes like eating ice cream. Delicious!
