The Drink

I spend a lot of time talking about lunch boxes, but I always forget to mention it's special drink. Taiwanese love tea, so for the most part lunch box places have a huge container of tea, that people drink with the tiny paper cups provided. However this is not really convenient if you want to take your meal to go. When it comes to being take out, a lot of places provide the tiny drink above.

It is what it says it is, a yoghurt-like drink. It's actually a yoghurt drink that is popular for helping people to poop. Which yes, it does work...a bit too well.

It's an ok tasting drink, most people don't even bother to drink it or even take it. I like it because it's got a bit of a thick taste to it, so it satisfies your thirst a bit more. However one reason people don't drink it is because it's considered dangerous. There is a belief (and I believe backed up with some studies) that you can't drink this is when eating sausage. Some chemical in the sausage and this drink react when in your stomach and cause some troubles. There are quite a few long standing beliefs that are just plain baloney, however I've heard this one enough that it has influenced me. On those rare occasions that I remember this "rule" I'll save the drink for another time if i'm eating sausage for that meal.

Before I finish, I should say that there is another way to get a drink to go at a lunch box place. Most places also have soup, which people will put into a plastic bag (yes hot soup in a plastic bag). Some people will also pour the tea into a plastic bag and then take it with them. I've only done this once or twice, because really that's a lot of effort just for some tea.
