Sacred Spot

Yesterday I talked about how in Taiwan people are pressured to live their lives the one way that Taiwanese society has said is the "correct" way to live your life. But of course all people being different means that there is no "normal" life that suits all people. Unfortunately this leads to a lot of people suffering quite deeply when they try their best to live the "right" life but they just can't do it.

Sometimes people in this situation turn to spirituality. Not religion, as actually religion is not a big thing in Taiwan at all. Rather spirituality, fortune telling, and meditation are all big here. Basically people are looking for something to help them fit into the "normal" life, or want a fortune teller to tell them that they can have a normal life, or they want something to bring them peace and no longer be stressed by not being able to have the normal life.

Today's picture is of spiritual place that sells all types of charms, books, and other things to help sooth people's souls. But the big thing about this store is that supposedly it's one of five special locations in Taiwan where just being there can relax you and make you feel better. I can say that walking into the store, it did feel a bit different inside. But I think that mostly had to do with it feeling not so well ventilated. But my friend who I accompanied there just took a quick look around, bought a book and then was out. So either that means she too didn't feel that it was a spiritual place to just feel relaxed, or that it was so relaxing that you only needed to be there five minutes and then you were fully recharged.
