Man Vs. Pavement

I've talked many times about how dangerous Taiwan's traffic is, especially for those people on scooters. I've also mentioned that people seem to want to wear the smallest helmets possible, meaning when they do have accidents, usually their faces are very messed up. I know one plastic surgeon who hates having to be on call, as it means patching up "idiots" who didn't wear suitable helmets, rather than helping people who really have some deformity.

But perhaps even more common is the picture above. It's surprising that you can see somebody one day and everything be fine, and then the next day you see them their leg is missing a lot of skin. And it is usually the legs, because especially women have this ideal of it being "attractive" showing off their legs on the back of a scooter, so while everything else is covered, they will leave their legs exposed.

It's actually quite interesting that the two parts of the body that Taiwanese women value the most, face and legs, are always the least protected. But hey I guess it's good news for psychopaths and cannibals, since if you like skinless body parts, Taiwan is the place for you!
