Chicken Feet Or Witch Hands

In Taiwan people will eat chicken feet. Now if you are Taiwanese than it's "oh yum, chicken feet!" and you get some while in the night market and happily walk around while eating it. If you are a foreigner it's "oh my god that looks like a witch's hand." and you walk around the night market gnawing on gristle, cursing your friend who insisted that the reason you don't like it is because you never had the "good kind" and then forced you to try it yet again.

Like a lot of similar foods, chicken feet became "popular" because they were discarded trash, making them very cheap. now each chicken foot will cost you anywhere from 60 cents to a buck fifty. It might not seem like much, but it has moved chicken feet from a meal to just a snack.

This picture did make me think of one thing though. Chicken feet are a popular snack, but how come duck feet, chicken head, or duck head, aren't a popular snack. Trust me, once you eat a chicken's foot, you're not going to feel that it's much different from what a duck's bill must taste like.
