OCOLOY Day 22: St. Méen le Grand by vignouse

OCOLOY Day 22: St. Méen le Grand

This was taken this afternoon in the nearby market town of St. Méen le Grand looking east, and shows a rear view of the town hall with the market square beyond.

This image is SOOC and is part of my ongoing OCOLOY project - you can read more about it in my post for 1 January and in my profile.
I'm likeing this series of shots Richard, this is especially good.

Wonderful in B/W and what a beautiful town! Everything looks so clean and well kept! Love the shine on the road and the lighting is perfect! FAV!

I like how you've created the composition where the road leads us into the light.

Nice afternoon light on the buildings.

Lovely light in this b/w shot...great compostion

Nice shadows. The road leads my eyes up and through the town.

I really like the way the curve of the darkness leads to the light. Excellent photo!

gorgeous light Richard

I do like the afternoon light along with the shadows on the buildings.

Beautiful b&w lighting!!

Really well captured Richard. I have just read your commentary on OCOLOY, and I think this is a great thing to try. I also read all your profile, and about trying to keep up with posting and commenting. This is all so true, and I am finding that I just cannot keep up with all the commenting everyday, so I try to at least get around to all my consistent friends and followers once a week and catch up with them then. I don't know the answer to this but all I can do is try, and same for you. I enjoy your work, and your thoughts.

nice high contrast... with some fabulous dark tones being picked up, particularly in the road... really nicely done!

Lovely light!

Nice angle and great detail in both lights and darks

it makes my head spin this picture!
I like your view angle

Stunning detail makes this zing! The pollarded trees, the period style street lights and of course the turrets on the town hall...icing on the cake.

I like how the light portrays the time of day in winter. Wonderfully composed too.

Wonderfully composed!

Love the contrast... and the curve of the road makes it a very attractive composition. This project with the X100T continues to be a great success. A printed series (or several) maybe themed if you continue with it photo-books perhaps?) could be really good.

@yrhenwr Your timing is impeccable... I was just wondering whether I should drop the sooc part as I'm taking lots of pics that I like... but only after they're processed! Now I'm going to have to persevere a bit longer! Thanks heaps for your kind comments... e-mail coming this weekend.
January 23rd, 2016
Well, remember the "doable" part: One thing I've loved about sooc septembers is the freedom from the time and angst of processing (yes and the pleasures too). I think my comments on this already appear above.
January 23rd, 2016
@francoise Bless you Françoise, you are always so well anchored! I've always enjoyed nf-sooc Septembers and always end up wondering why I process so much... and then go straight back to my old habits! To be be fair though, I'm usually on holiday in September so lots of new things and places to photograph.

I've been shooting in both JPEG and Raw with the X100T so that I have pics I could use in another album. I'm going to switch the X100T back to JPEG only, I think, and take a second camera with me for other shots. It's only the lack of processing that's been irking me... I'm fine with the OCOLOY concept, love B&W and I hardly ever crop anyway so I'm already three-quarters of the way there.

Thank you so much for your wise counsel and your encouragement.

So picturesque and quiet - a wonderful composition.

Love these project. I don't have the patience to stick to a project most of the time. Too much curiosity. BUt I just emailed you about an idea I have.

Your project your rules: @vignouse. I think there's something to be said for a processing but no cropping rule if you're a committed ocologist. No cropping because of the value of getting composition right in-camera and of mastering the field of view but processing because, well, why not?

it's recently rained in your shot, right? Sets the road and its lovely curve off so well.
January 23rd, 2016
@jasperc Yeah, that's what I've been telling myself - well, why not?! I think the dull weather hasn't helped because there is so little contrast in many of my photos at the moment - this one is OK because the sun came out for a few minutes... after the rain stopped. I shall see January out SOOC anyway and then we'll see if I'll permit myself the indulgence of a wee tweak here and there ;-)
January 23rd, 2016
@vignouse Why not? I suppose, on reflection and to answer my rhetorical question, perhaps to force you to explore all alternative avenues. Does your comment suggest you have an (over?)dependence on contrast to makes your photos sing? Nothing wrong with that. But maybe now is the moment to explore soft contrast monochrome.
January 23rd, 2016
It's a good point but I don't think I have any kind of dependence on high-contrast monochrome - there are lots of examples of soft contrast in my project... most recently Ocoloy Days 17 & 20, both of which I really like and wouldn't want to do anything to. On a slightly different note, I've just seen @dbj Joe's post... I shall comment shortly!

The shadows are fantastic in this

Just brilliant! I'm not sure that light could have been specifically ordered up any better than it appeared naturally. Fantastic.

L'ombre et la lumière...tout un programme !
