I went for a walk this afternoon in the part of the forest which used to be the German Army Camp during WW2 not expecting to stumble on this grisly little scene. These remains were not there the last time I passed by a few weeks ago.
I don't know what animals they were - something sizeable as the skulls were much bigger than my hand and the leg-bones were about 30cm long. Just a few metres away there is a huge badger sett so I guess they could be badger remains. The bones have been picked absolutely clean but there are no teeth marks, so probably the work of crows rather than foxes.
The image is SOOC and is part of my ongoing OCOLOY project - you can read more about it in my post for 1 January and in my profile. I'm also posting for B&W February.
@graemestevens You got your comment in before I tagged you! This is how I found them except that they were partially covered with dead leaves and ground ivy which I removed before taking the shot. Lots of vertebra scattered around but these larger bones were all together.
oh sue's comment made me laugh. it is grim and hate to think about the story behind this. we have coyotes and bobcats that have been showing up and killing cats and small dogs...not good. too sad.
Ils ont l'air de ne pas avoir été touchés depuis leur mort.... C'est assez incroyable!
