OCOLOY Day 151: Sawyer Beetle by vignouse

OCOLOY Day 151: Sawyer Beetle

Mrs S spotted this Sawyer or Pine Beetle whilst we were having dinner - he was slowly making his way down the lounge widow pane... on the outside fortunately. By the time we had finished dinner and I went to look for him, he had made his way onto the wall. To give you an idea of scale, his body is about 4cm long. It gets its name from it's practice of boring into dead or diseased logs and laying eggs there.

As usual, this image is SOOC and is part of my ongoing OCOLOY project - you can read more about it in my profile.
That's a huge beetle by Danish standard, and a nice capture.

He's quite something, a tightrope walker with his balance mechanism attached to his head! Not much hiding place if he can't retract the antennae.

Great close-up. Hope it was just passing through and didn't find a good place for to lay eggs.
