We returned for the second day of our parrot training workshop. It was a lot of fun, learning new training tips to try with our girls and being inspired by Barbara Heidenreich's videos and advice :)
Here she is training a cute little male Gang Gang cockatoo to sit on her hand.
It was challenging to get pics - the people in front of us kept moving about, and the light levels weren't too high. A few people took pics with flash, but it didn't seem very fair to the birds or Barbara.
Good for you for working without the flash - it does seem to lack courtesy as well as being cruel to mess with the birds' eyesight in what must be a potentially stressful environment - the workshop sounds like a great source of inspiration too.
Nice shot, Alia! It was rude for people to use their flash. That can spook birds. You should have told the people to please move so you could take photos... You should have told them you were there on an Op Ed piece for the local paper! lol ... Love the colors on the parrot. I'm glad you enjoyed the seminar. I hope you can train the girls new tricks! I'm looking forward to the stories! Well done!
@psychographer There are workshops for dog owners, so why not parrots? :) @pyrrhula I had a look, but couldn't see a museum setting on my camera. I settled for 'kids and pets' mode which has faster focus and shutter priority...
@sangwann We started trying to train Magic to sit on the table (so we can eventually get her onto a training perch and in a towel), and Phoenix to nibble fingers (she's always been scared of hands). Very small steps, but we made good progress.
You did well to get such a good shot. And the people using flash should be escorted from the audience. Then again they probably don't know how to turn it off.
