A Collegiate Tradition

To emphasize the community spirit of our school, each 4th grade has a kindergarten class to partner with for special activities. Once a month the entire Lower School gathers for a chapel service. (You can do that in an independent school!) Before chapel the 4th graders walk to the kindergarten building and visit for a few minutes with their "Cougar Pals." Then each pair walks together to chapel. The 4th graders model appropriate chapel behavior and everyone enjoys the companionship. The resource teachers, like the librarians, are also teamed with a class so we sit together. Then when we sing a song like "We're all just seeds in God's hands" or "I'm a Promise; I'm a Possibility" we truly feel like one extended family.
Oh, and in case you are wondering. Those are birthday stars on the shirts of a number of kids. In May we honor all summer birthdays.
That is such a neat idea and what a gret way to build friendships too.
