This quote is often attributed to Benjamin Franklin but my research suggests a much older origin, in George Herbert's Outlandish Proverbs, circa 1633.
Doesn't everybody have a piggy bank or a box or a jug in which you throw your pennies? What else can you do with them. (That is a rhetorical question, so I will omit the question mark.) And now that the cup is full comes the tedium of rolling those pennies and taking them to the bank. It is a good lesson in thrift.
Allison, on my way to work this morning I was think about a photo for the theme, and in my head I was thinkiong, how can I use the saying A Penny Saved Is A Penny Earned. Youare too quick LOL

ok, now everyone's gonna think I'm weird, but I actually try to spend pennies often to get rid of them - like if no one is behind me in line, I'll throw in as many pennies as I feel I can get away with. LOL - but I do have a little bowl here on the desk, as they do accumulate, don't they!?
great idea for the theme---my kids think that pennies are useless so I've been saving them and then after awhile cashing them in so they can see that every penny counts :)
Oh no..I saw this picture and right away I thought of "A penny saved is a penny earned" and when I opend the picture up there was your comment.. Like I said once before I still bend down to pick up a penny...we always say a penny you found will bring you luck.
