John and I celebrated our 47th anniversary by dining at a new restaurant that has gotten lots of attention since it opened last month. It was, by far, the best dinner either of us has had in all of years of living (and eating) in Richmond. The restaurant is Shagbark, named for an old Civil War-era Shagbark Hickory tree from a farm along the banks of the James River. The restaurant was bright and airy, despite just having survived a torrential thunderstorm, and the dishes were put together with such care and creativity that it was a great experience from first bite to the last taste of dessert. John is already talking about returning. A lovely way to spend a very special evening.
Here is the menu if you are feeling hungry. I had the grouper and John, the beef tenderloin. http://www.shagbarkrva.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/shagbark-rva-menu.pdf
Well congratulations Alison...you must have been a child bride! isn't it great when you find somewhere to eat that gives such pleasure both in its food and ambience, well captured in your collage.
Congrats on your 47th ( you're 4 years ahead of me). I love the food shots here, now I need to put that place on my bucket list. Especially like the wide tree boards making a dividing wall.
Our 50th anniversary is on August 6th. I can hardly believe it.
Not very special, we booked a restaurant and a kind of party for our family and friends in September.
