Ellen and I met at the Virginia Museum of History and Culture for a noon lecture by a US Marine major general discussing his well-researched book about the origins of the Marine corps. His talk was heavy on military strategy and leadership during the battles of the Revolutionary War, but he spoke with such passion that you were pulled along by his enthusiasm. It was really a marvel that colonial forces, outnumbered and ill equipped as they were, pulled off the remarkable victory that they did.
