After reading both historical fiction and nonfiction books written by local authors about the terrible theater fire of 1811, a group of us had the opportunity to tour Monumental Church built on the site of the original theater. We were moved by the crypt in the basement which contains the remains of 71 of the victims of this dreadful tragedy.
