The complex of municipal buildings in the heart of downtown Denver include the public library, the state Capitol and the Denver Art Museum. This photo shows just a small section of the beautiful soaring structure that is the art museum. Our group actually had a behind-the-scenes tour of the Clifford Styll Museum that is located adjacent to the main museum. I had not heard of Styll before. He was an abstract expressionist considered ( at least by the curator ) as one of the finest American artists of his generation. When he died in 1980, he bequeathed his entire collection to an American city that would build a museum to house his art. Denver was finally selected, but the museum was not built til 2005. The remarkable thing is that Still lived frugally his entire life, rarely exhibited or sold his work, and managed to keep together more than 2400 paintings and drawings.
