Green Peppers and Stories

This gentleman lives near the Wanich Bridge, the first covered bridge on our tour. He was gathering peppers from his garden when we arrived but was happy to stop and tell us some of the history of the bridge and his house. Several times, he told us, the river has flooded and his property was underwater for a week. One time a neighbor's son had to swim into his yard and rescue his cage of rabbits. Last winter some house trailers were swept off their foundations and would easily have destroyed the bridge if they hadn't gotten jammed on a bend in the creek. Despite the drama, he is happy to live near the water and cultivate his vegetables.
Great portrait

Sounds like you got an earful of stories along the way - nice of him to share the history!

Wonderful that you were able to talk to him. I love hearing stories from the people who live in the area.
