Being a teacher at Christmas is not for the faint of heart. Families show their appreciation with lots of homemade goodies and an occasional Starbucks or Target gift card. Some of the best presents are cards and letters of thanks from the kids themselves.
All my mother received was perfume, cologne, talcum powder -- never got anything edible. But that was the 50's. maybe everyone hoped to sweeten up their teachers.
