Why Bother?

At first I thought it was a sculpture of a baseball. Not wanting to walk across a lawn, I used the zoom and only when I got home did I study the figure more closely. What ever it is, it seems to be tattered and hardly worthy of its placement on a pedestal.
On the other hand, there might be a dramatic story associated with this sphere that fills the home owner with pride and emotion. I guess we'll never know.
