This morning my discussion group consisting of 3 librarians and a classroom teacher with a passion for books met with our leader Hannah who is originally from New Zealand and is currently finishing her Ph.d at Oxford. Then we had a field trip to Oxford University Press to learn about its history and the story of its most important publication-- The Oxford Dictionary.
Although breakfast and dinner are provided, we are on our own for lunch, so our little group chose pub grub at The Eagle and The Child. This establishment has been in place since the1600s and was the meeting place for C.S Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien and other literati of the time. Every place you look at has a long history. Coming from a relatively young country, it is fascinating to me.
Allison, I can sense from your narrative that you are excited about your visit to Oxford. Enjoy the week and enjoy the wonderful photograph opportunities too.
Not many UK cities have the history, culture, architecture, money and academic history of Oxford. Anyway, don't let me dampen your enthusiasm , just enjoy and capture the memories with your undoubted photographic eye :)
