What a perfect way to enjoy Shakespeare. We attended a performance of The Merry Wives of Windsor on the grounds of Wadham College. It started at 7:30 and was just dark at the conclusion at 9:45. The madcap antics of Sir John Falstaff ( shown above left) and a shifting cast of husbands, wives servants, and suitors was the perfect story for a cool summer evening. The dialogue was true to the original text, but the musical accompaniment was a mixture of traditional and original music played on guitars, violin and kazoos! Some of the servants performed their lines like hip hop artists and In the final scene two of the characters took out cell phones to send their messages. The bard was just as fresh and funny as when he first penned this romp.
