Susan, my fellow-librarian, spearheads an amazing research project with third graders. You can see here parts of a timeline created using bookmarks made by students. Susan helps the students select appropriate biographies and in collaboration with the classroom and technology teachers, guides the students through the research process, including note taking, proofreading, creating a bibliography and ultimately producing a bookmark highlighting the major contribution of each subject. At the end of the project, Susan displays all the student work on this detailed timeline. What a learning experience for third graders as well as the students from other grades who swarm around to see which historical figures are represented.Great job, kids and Susan!
