Sharing Our Love of Books

This year's holiday service project for the Lower School was to collect new books for the Central Virginia Children’s Book Bank, an organization that distributes directly to underserved children and organizations that serve at-risk children.
The mission of this group is to “put as many books as possible into the hands and lives of children in need. By providing opportunities for children to read and be read to, the Children’s Book Bank is an important tool in improving school readiness for prekindergarten-aged children and enhancing literacy in school-aged children”.
One study found that in middle income neighborhoods the ratio is 13 books per child; in low-income neighborhoods, the ratio is one book for every 300 children.
As you can see in the big picture, our students gave 505 new books for this worthy cause.
What a wonderful idea
