Passenger Pigeon (Extinct)

It's been 100 years since the last known Passenger Pigeon died in a Cincinnati zoo. They once numbered an estimated 9 billion in North America and travelled in huge flocks. They were hunted to extinction. I found this stuffed one in the small nature center I visited last weekend....first one I had seen. I hope we are getting smarter about saving endangered species now.
Interesting story. We love pigeon in Poland, but know nothing about them in Australia.

Anne, I've got some literature I have been saving for you regarding this special bird. Gathered it at a lecture at KIA.

Wow! People are sometimes the dumbest and most dangerous of creatures, if we don't get smarter soon then a lot more species will soon just be a specimen in zoos and museums.

There was an intersting article in a magazine I get called Birdwatch about these birds .

I've always heard of the Passenger Pigeon - but that's all - just heard that it was an extinct species. How nice to now put an image with that. I do hope man learns soon to protect the wonders he has before more face this fate.

Some learn - and are then are ostracised for taking a stance.
