Did a native wildlife rescue course with youngest over both days on the weekend.
This afternoon I answer the phone to hear "Hi wildlife rescue here - there's a juvenile magpie needing to be collected from a vet near you are you able to do it?"
So I now have a magpie in the bathroom and tomorrow will be spent fixing up one of our cocky cages to accommodate him/her so I can look after and assess for release.
The fun begins without pause :)
The Australian magpie (Cracticus tibicen) is a medium-sized black and white passerine bird native to Australia and southern New Guinea. A member of the Artamidae, it is closely related to the butcherbirds (but not to the European magpie, which is a corvid).
You will never manage to get rid of him you know. We have a family of magpies who visit us regularly with their latest offspring every year. They are worse than rabbits. I am sure they would move in given half the chance.
@kali66 thank you for sharing that with me Kali
what a wonderfully whimsical and accurate ( only word I can think of at this time of night ) poem ( will edit if / when my brain works )
