So - went to the speedway last night to watch the sprint car races and what fun that was - but talk about dirty! The haze is the dust they create as they speed around the track and those dark bits flying through the air are chunks of clay. They have huge wire fences around the track - not only to protect spectators from any wayward cars but also from the flying clay. The clumps are huge and despite the fence still hit you - they are just a little smaller because as they hit the wire mesh they break up. I was sitting at the front so I could focus through the wire to take photos and got hit more than a few times. Besides photos I also got to take home a layer of dust that had the shower running a red orange colour.
The wire, dust and flying clay made photography interesting but I managed a few good shots.
WHAT A NIGHT!
@maggiemae hahaha i prefer the action Maggiemae @wordpixman thank you Arthur...it was so much fun...I was a tad envious of the media photographers and their big lenses haha @graemestevens oh it was forcefully delivered right through the mesh lol
Looks like a lot of excitement. We went to a rodeo a while ago and it was so dusty we all ended up covered in the brown dust. A friend took her glasses off and there were rings around her eyes.
Great action shot. That takes me back to when I used to race mini stocks and drive in destruction derbies and figure of 8 racing. Fun days..... Too old and brittle for that sort of thing now. :)
@maree_sanderson thanks Maree @onewing hahahaha yep it was like that - the flinging clay clumps were a worry - more for the camera than me lol @365projectlinda thanks Lindy! @swillinbillyflynn looking to go when the demolition derby is on :) @transatlantic99 thank you Heidi - much of it was pot luck hahahaha @mingr it was often hard to see and I just had to hope for the best @lxxx thank you! it was fun @phil_howcroft thanks Phil :)
