Cockatoo Island - wide view - 5

This week I will be showing a wider view of Cockatoo Island. Still behind - shhhh!

This is looking up at the Plateau from the Dockyards Precinct. The building on the left is I believe the Mould Loft where workers would draft the plans for ships and create moulds in full scale before sending them to workers below for fabrication. I think the building on the right is the Estimating & Drawing Offices (1915 - 1918).

As I have moved in, I can see my bedroom window!

@gigiflower hahahaha not sure you can see it from there - and there is a fancier spot on the island that may suit you better :)

Ah ha! Cockatoo Island has been a prison, reformatory, industrial school for girls (I love that!) and a shipyard! I'm guessing all the huge machinery was for the shipyards. Talk about a very rich, diverse history! An "industrial school for girls" really speaks to me, I have said for a long time that trade schools should be top priority for our country, not everyone can have an office job!

Great pov to show off these wonderfully grungy industrial buildings. BTW, I suspect that 'industrial school for girls' is only one tiny step removed from a reformatory. Not sure though.

@louannwarren nor do we need everyoneoto be a lawyer, doctor, mathematician or scientist....I use tradespeople way more than any of the above hahaha

@golftragic I suspect you could be right about that ☺

@golftragic @annied yes, I thought that as well! A very interesting history nonetheless.
