This little guy is my friend's little boy. I have been toying with doing portraiture as a business. Just not sure if I want to make the commitment. Is anyone else in a quandary about your next step in photography?
I've been a terrible 365'er and apologise for my absence. It seems there is always something else that needs doing.
I started doing family portraits by accident recently and am now working nearly every weekend! It's crazy! I'm no where near the level I should be to charge, but people are paying me (although not loads at the moment!) My advice if you're wondering about it is to just do it - if you don't like it after a while, then stop! This is a gorgeous pic of this little man :)
Oh my - look at that face! So adorable to capture an expression like this one. I would for sure try out the business - just don't overdue it and then get into a situation where you don't want to do it. Just take a few portrait gigs over Christmas and let word of mouth be your advertising.
I've gone back to work full time (with 5 hour daily commutes) to pay for our cottage build so I have had no time for the camera. I was going to start an Etsy page but didn't even have time to do that for the upcoming Christmas print sales. Just need to win the lottery so I can retire and have all the time in the world! ;)
What a precious capture, Sheralee. You have a knack with portraits so I can see why it calls to you as a business. Go with your heart on the idea of making your camera a business partner. Better to have tried than to always wonder if you should have.
Beautiful shot. Fav, because it is a quality capture. Nothing to offer on the photography business front, sorry. Just a working girl over here, with no experience on the making money part of this fun.
He is totally adorable! Nothing I enjoy taking photos of has any commercial value, though I wish it did. But if you love taking people, and judging from your past photos, you do, then portraiture is a great way forward.
Gorgeous photo of a sweet little guy. Great focus on his eyes. You're certainly good enough to run your own portrait business. I've been running mine low key for a few years now. I've never done any advertising, just through word of mouth. I've been so busy with other things that it suits me just fine. My advise would be don't sell yourself short. You would be deliverying a high quality product so charge accordingly :)
@kiwichick That's kind of you Lesley. I do worry that I wouldn't have time for other photography too so maybe something like you're doing would suit me also.
Gorgeous shot. You are so good at portraits, but only you are the one to say how much commitment you want to make to it. You could give it a go and then if it got too much stop.

Kass, I don't know how you are coping with a five hour commute!! I hope you get your cottage done quickly so you don't have to do that anymore.
