We are told now that we need to drop off our masks at the end of our shifts so that they can be disinfected and reused again, up to five times. We put our names on a label and place the mask in a paper bag to be disinfected and we pick it up the following day. It'll buy time, but we will still run out of masks soon. I have been using my same mask for three weeks now (I work f/sa/su 12 hour shifts) and was wiping it down with alcohol. I have two more in my locker that I've been saving, but I'll have to bust them out eventually.
A bunch of philanthropic NZ businessmen ordered 5 plane loads of PPE and respirators and delivered them on chartered flights on behalf of the nz government , they needed armed guards so that no-one else would claim them!
A German orde of 600 000 Mask from China, ready for delivery, where redirected to the US.......Now big German companies where refurbished to produce mask for them selfs.
I hope that someone somewhere is making millions of them to keep you all safe... I find it extraordinary that you all have to take such risks for us. My niece is a respiratory physio on a Cystic Fibrosis ward and has just been diagnosed with Covid19 -
@jocasta so sorry to hear that. Respiratory therapists are getting exposed the most and it's making me mad. At my hospital, 4 security guards just got diagnosed because they weren't wearing masks and they were just walking around the hospital thinking that they'd be okay.
