The Dame was built circa 1950 and the Railroad bridge circa 1911. Prior to that, only high powered steamboats could navigate the Pend Oreille River, or freight would have to be portaged around the area. The railroad is currently owned by Pend Oreille Valley Authority and the Ione Lions club operates excursions on weekends.
