Walk in the Park

We spent some time at Mums' place today, tweaking her computer in an attempt to make it run faster. Before heading home we visited her local park. I had been reading about plans to remove exotic trees (2500 of them!) from Auckland's volcanic cones, and our own Mauao (Mt Maunganui) is undergoing the same. As far as I know there are no plans to do the same in this park, where there are many old and beautiful trees.

The weather was much better today with some blue skies and sunshine, but more bad weather is expected in the next few days.
What a beautiful park. Always sad to see trees cut down

A lovely gnarled old tree. I hadn't heard that they were wanting to remove exotic trees. What about that tree lined avenue at Cornwall Park - I am sure those are oak! The tree (the one that had to be removed) from One Tree Hill was actually a pine tree. That was so iconic!

That's a real shame

Why are they removing the trees? Most people seem intent on planting more.

@dkbarnett @casablanca I believe some of the land has changed ownership and the new owners wanted to remove any trees that aren't natives, despite many being unhappy with this. I will do some more research to make sure I have the correct facts. Unfortunately it's very political.
