I went to a craft morning at Florence Mine, Egremont. All the equipment, buildings, roads etc. are coated with pink iron ore/pig ore. Since the Florence mine was opened in 1914, more than 20m tonnes of ore have been mined and several hundred miles of tunnels have been dug. It's sad that we have lost yet another industry but good that the buildings are being re-vitalised in the name of craft.
