wild olives

alas the wild olives along our creek are being poisoned. They are considered a pest and the creek is being revegetated with native trees and shrubs. This is a good thing but it will be a shame to see these trees go. However, they will let the dead trees stand to provide perches for the birds so that's something I suppose
Nice shot, Love the different textures and the variety in the green colours

I'm surprised to hear that wild olives are considered invasive, and I'm glad you had a chance to capture this lovely shot before they are cleared out. Are these edible? I would think birds may like these but perhaps not.

This looks very lush, as you say, a shame to loose these trees.

Very old Harvey to come

Beautiful. Love the focus and dof. So I understand that olive trees are not endemic to your country. They say that Malta has (or had) one of the best species of olives in the world.

It is a pity that they are going, but at least the birds will enjoy them.

Great shot. Love the detail and focus

@sangwann thankyou Dione. We do grow beautiful olives here in South Australia but if they escape the olive groves they become an invasive pest. They are very difficult to kill.

@joyce2013 @mrsbluesky @seattlite @golder365mjsmith @pennystot @karlow75 @carlt
thankyou all. The birds love the olives and of course its the birds who spread the seeds around and cause all the trouble.

@cimes1 the wild olives are a great pest. They are edible but very small. In some places people harvest them but these ones are just choking up the creek. Olives are grown commercially here in South Australia as we have a Mediterranean climate.

@rosie1610 Thomas' dad has a wonderful olive tree with big fat olives and sometime gives us a large jar made to his special spice recipe

Very interesting, what you've shared about these plants. I had no idea olives grew so easily and could become a pest.

@cruiser Interesting! Thank you.

February 8th, 2015
Send us some of those trees. Even if they are invasive, they should be curbed not destroyed IMHO.

I like the plays of light and shade here... and personally, I think I prefer a live anything to a dead one.
