the Herbig Tree. A River Red Gum estimated to be 300 to 500 years old

this hollow tree served as a home for 27 year old Friedrich Herbig and his 18 year old wife from 1855-1860. The first two of her 16 children were born here. He then built a two room pine and pug hut nearby and later a stone cottage. It is amazing how it continues to live and inside there is a display of their history and photos of the family
Strange looking tree but I like it.

@lesip it sure is. When I was little I thought it would be wonderful to live in a tree but not so sure this one would have been to comfortable in the winter or the extreme heat of summer. People were very tough in those early days.
